taking time

It almost certainly goes without saying, but as the mother of three small children, I don’t get very many moments in the day to myself. The bathroom is the only room in the house which has a lock, and the shower is my sanctuary. Those instants when the water is falling are always an oasis of calm in an otherwise hectic morning. This is why I was particularly delighted when Lido Bristol asked me if I would like to sample their new product range, Lido spa. If I can’t get to the spa any time soon then I am all in favour of bringing the spa to me!

Our bathroom is the least pretty room in the house, but if I closed my eyes, I could almost imagine myself poolside. Each of the three body washes in the range sent a different gorgeous scent wafting through the steam. The lime and grapefruit notes of the purifying body wash helped me to feel brighter after yet another sleepless night with the baby, and the shampoo and conditioner left me with bouncy spa-scented hair (even if I was too time-pushed on the school run to run a brush through it!) I have not had anything that could be described as a ‘beauty regime’ for quite some time, but I took a couple of extra minutes to apply some body lotion, which was time well-spent as my skin felt better all day as a result. There’s a good deal to be said for small, everyday treats, and infusing even necessities like hand washing with essence of spa is a lovely way to add a little bit of luxury to life.

I am careful to avoid chemicals such as parabens and SLS and was glad to see that the entire Lido spa range contain none of these. It is made using natural products by a Somerset apothecary and is kind to both body and environment.  You can buy all the products online via the Lido spa website, and they currently have free delivery on purchases of two or more products- pop over to their Facebook page to find out more.

At the end of the day, when all the children are asleep, there are a few quiet moments that I can call my own. The lighting of a candle can make anything feel like an event, and settling down with a book or my knitting is so much more relaxing in a room scented with rose geranium, a long-time favourite of mine. These are the few small pockets of the day when I take time for myself. Time to breathe.
