It’s the end of the fifth month of my #littlestoriesofmylife project over on Instagram, celebrating and/or sharing the tiniest elements of the stories of our lives. Small doesn’t equate to insignificant: these are the little moments that add up to the narratives that carry us all. In Instagram’s frames of beauty or of emotion, we are each the teller of our own story. I ask for people to share their stories by tagging with #littlestoriesofmylife any picture that captures a moment, or contains a narrative, however small it may be. Astoundingly, there have been over 13,000 posts to date! I am absolutely blown away by the stories that are shared via #littlestoriesofmylife every single day.
Nota Bene Wares were kind enough to provide a handmade scented candle of the winner’s choice as a prize for my favourite January image. It was, as always, a challenge to choose it! The hashtag is full of so many beautiful images, and so many wonderful small stories. It is always a privilege to share in every one. As with last month, I have selected six favourites, and one overall winner. I include with each image its caption, for therein the details of the story can be found.
@cottagefarm: sunday sheets – a rhythm and routine in preparation for the week ahead both indoors and out – here the distinction between the two is blurry. life exists inside house walls, barn walls and stone walls with equal affection
@allthatisthe: Mother and daughter chats before we hit the road and headed to Liverpool for the weekend. Happy Friday everyone!@fionaannal: • i’ve lived on this small island all my life and have never been in this area before today 🗻 any locals recognise it? cold and beautiful in equal measure •
@helena.moore: Happy Saturday! Not a day without hats and mittens around here.
@vibekelentz: // h a p p y f e e t
@veronikagphotography: This on repeat ,down up down up till all cheeks are bright red ,eyes tired ,legs heavy .Then back home to fill our bellies with warm goodies ,hot bath and reading or movie till bedtime .Winter weekends just like that can’t wait for next 👌❄️ it’s not easy to get out with three kids I have to tell you but it’s usually worth it ,sparkles in their eyes and jiggles while their dad does anything they want makes it all worth it not to mention early bed time ✌️😏
Finally, my favourite image this month is by Laura of @hellomistermagpie. I love the tones of this image, the simplicity, and the distillation of what is, for me too, a small but essential January joy.
@hellomistermagpie: Hellebores and narcissi from the market this morning…if you can’t buy yourself flowers on a Monday morning, then when can you!
Laura, do email me your address, and I’ll arrange for your prize to be sent out to you.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part so far. The #littlestoriesofmylife gallery remains a magical space to lose a few moments. The project is an ongoing one, so if you are on Instagram, please do continue to tag your images. February’s prize is a ‘year’s supply’ of greetings cards from the lovely Wildflower Illustration Co. I look forward to sharing in your stories in the weeks ahead.
